Dear Roosevelt Families and Granger Community,
As a long-time resident of Granger, I am deeply honored to step into the role of principal at Roosevelt Elementary. With 15 years of experience in the Granger School District, including 13 years at Roosevelt as a kindergarten and second-grade teacher, I have a deep understanding of our community and the vital role our school plays. My journey in education has been shaped by these experiences, and I am eager to continue contributing to a place I know so well. My personal connection to the district is strong—my husband, Greg Herrera, is a counselor at Granger High School, and our children have thrived here: Xitlali, a 2018 graduate; Gregorio Jr., a 2020 graduate; and Gabriel, who is starting his senior year.
As a first-generation immigrant from Mexico and an English Language Learner, I understand the challenges many of our students and families face. I was the first in my family to graduate from college, and my bilingual and biliterate abilities allow me to connect with and support our diverse community more effectively. These experiences have shaped my commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every student feels valued and inspired. My background enables me to relate to many in our community and lead with empathy and understanding.
Having spent a significant part of my career at Roosevelt, I am excited to bring my passion for education and my familiarity with our school to this new role. My focus will be on empowering students and staff to reach their fullest potential. I believe that a positive school culture, supported by strong community and family involvement, is key to success. My leadership approach is collaborative, emphasizing open communication and shared decision-making. I’m committed to fostering a safe, inclusive environment where students feel valued, teachers are supported, and everyone is inspired to grow and learn together.
I look forward to working closely with each of you as we continue to make Roosevelt Elementary a place where our students can thrive.
Warm regards,
Jaquelin Herrera
