Comprehensive Sexual Health Education

The education requirements for schools, Senate Bill 5395, passed by the State Legislature in 2020, requires that all schools provide comprehensive sexual health education..

Comprehensive sexual health education is defined in the bill as instruction about human development and reproduction that takes place over time and is age-appropriate and inclusive of all students. Students in K-3 receive social-emotional learning. THERE IS NO SEXUAL HEALTH CONTENT REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES K-3. Students in grade 4 will receive instruction on human growth and development (puberty). The learning objectives for the lesson are as follows:

  • Describe at least three changes that take place during puberty.

  • Differentiate between what could be considered physical and what are social and emotional changes of puberty.

  • Correctly name at least two parts of two reproductive systems.

Our district is a great proponent of parent participation and voice in their children’s education. Therefore, you will be able to opt your child or children out of this instruction with a written request. Our lesson will be available at the Roosevelt office for your review before instruction takes place. If you do choose to opt your child or children out of this instruction, please return the Comprehensive Sexual Education Student Waiver to the Roosevelt office.
