Spring Into Self-Control
March brings the energy of spring — and sometimes big feelings, too! This month, our counseling focus is on emotional regulation and self-control. As we head into the busy spring season and prepare for testing, it’s a great time to strengthen students’ skills for staying calm, focused, and in control.
During recess, our student support team will be hosting interactive regulation tabling activities where students can practice simple, effective calm-down strategies in fun and engaging ways.
Recess Activities Include:
Freeze & Melt (learning to tense and relax the body)
Stretch & Reset (movement to release stress and refocus)
Figure-8 Breathing
Bubble Breathing
These activities help students recognize when their bodies feel overwhelmed and give them tools they can use both in school and at home.
Family Connection:
You can support your child by asking:
What is one calm-down strategy you have learned?
When might you use that tool at home?
What does your body feel like when you start to feel upset?
Together, we can help students build lifelong skills to manage big emotions and make positive choices.
If you have any concerns or need support, our counselors are here to help! 509-854-1420
